This is our first attempt at videos on YouTube, these videos are intended to be a personal log of our quest to explore as many of the navigable canals and rivers of the UK. Why not join us on our quest and share the highs and lows of living aboard a narrowboat and continuously cruising the inland waterways of England and Wales.

We left the safety and security of Reedley Marina at Burnley on the Leeds and Liverpool Canal. It was an overcast but dry day the temperature was 16 degrees Celsius, we topped up with diesel and water and had done a full shop 2 days before and then dropped our car off at our friends house the day before. For the first time in 40 years we were carless, it was a daunting prospect.
We started our journey on the Leeds and Liverpool Canal heading East towards Leeds. We stopped briefly at at B&Q to pick up a few supplies then continued onto Barrowford Locks. This was not a good start: 7 locks all very leaky and our handcuff key to unlock the paddles didn't work!
All the locks were against us as 2 boats had ascended the locks in front of us and the volunteer lock ie was about to go home. It took us three hours to go through the 7 locks, kindly one of the boats in front sent us down a spare handcuff key they had. We also damaged a front fender as it became trapped in one of the lock doors. It was 7pm before we moored up above the top lock on a beautiful evening just as the sun was setting.
